misiek does it a ton too so obviously it can work but the point is why are people falling for it?
everyone takes the person who has fled planets which is great but then they immediatly battle to gain more sending wave and wave of their armies to support the idiot way of thinking no! there mine!
suddenly they run out of armies and HEY PRESTO! the guy who fled suddenly decides to play again with his 2k + army and BANG wipes the board to a so called victory ><
POOHBAH!
ITS A LAZY WAY TO WIN.
everytime i see this happening i try to pause the game only by a minute or 2 everyone sees the sense we all gain more ships thereby reducing the threat of the lazy player or if im playing with the right kind of people we send in 500 ships to the planet to flush him out / kill him off. after all he/she would only mop up once we go head to head.
yes its a win yes its a tactic but man a shallow win me thinks.
the best ever games are when theres 3 dominate forces left and theres an all out war between players THAT KNOW HOW TO KEEP THE GAME BALANCED!
it makes for an epic battle untill someone produces the gem of moves and becomes victorious over 2 extreemly deserving players
perfect play =) | | Re: retreating :: Mar 10, 2007 @ 12:02pm |

In a 1v1v1, if the other two players are fighting you but not each other, fighting is generally suicidal (unless you're as strong as both combined). On the other hand, if you retreat, one of them will end up with a majority of the map's productivity; the smaller will then have to attack him, and will have to do so before your ships become irrelevant--thus giving you a chance of recovery. (If they're playing properly, they'll keep enough reserves that you won't win, but you should be able to recover a large enough share of the map that neither of them will have a majority any more.)
Retreating isn't a good idea if your opponents are already fighting each other in addition to you--it gains nothing, and loses territory. It's also probably not a good idea if you have more than two opponents, since then they can simply starve you out, planning to combine against whoever's strongest after you're dead or irrelevant. | | Re: lets pretend im not here strategy :: Mar 12, 2007 @ 6:22pm |

DONT SIT AROUND AND LET HIM BUILD THE ARMIES IN THE FIRST PLACE.
In a game where you end up with 2 or more people all focussing on the same big player, the only way that big player could have thousands of ships to retreat with is because everyone let him build them up before they attacked.
Waiting to try and gain an advantage doesnt help you at all in this situation either. When you fight you're going to lose all those ships anyway. The only thing you can do is get the player who retreated back in to the game. Carefully give ground and let it look like another player is getting too strong, and you should be able to get the retreated guy back in to it.
These kind of games get very long and complicated though. It's best to just make the judgements quickly and get on with it so that it can't happen in the first place.post updated on Mar 12, 2007 @ 6:25pm | | Re: lets pretend im not here strategy :: Mar 12, 2007 @ 6:53pm |

- 3 fairly equal players, I retreat to my one planet so they fight it out. Generally, I think this is a weak strategy and doesn't work so hot. But there are the rare cases where it seems like it is the only thing to do.
- 3 fairly equal players, you have the "advantage" - I send all my ships to the next largest player's furthest planet, and quickly take over their cluster. It tends to confuse people for long enough and I get enough of the other player's planets that for a while I've got more production - and thus I have a gain of ships. Used properly - sometimes several times in a game - I've been able to win quite a few games.
- You start out in a horrible position. Just try to get 3 planets and keep a low profile. If you can amass around 1000 ships, you stand a good chance of winning during the cross fire. Sometimes, when I'm in a position where I don't think I'll win, I'll lose enough ships to do this strategy for a while and get a second shot later. Doesn't always work, but sometimes you get lucky. | | Re: lets pretend im not here strategy :: Mar 24, 2007 @ 8:20pm |

To take "pretending I'm not here" to the next level, today my wife pulled me away and I forgot to hit /away... Something about me paying more attention to a silly game than her. I said "Its not a silly game.. Its Galcon!". Anyways, when i got back 3 other players had the board and I had 400 ships in my home planet. I moved when I was attacked by the largest to (like dominion showed me), where ships were coming from in other attacks. I hopped to large production planets several times as people tiffed, and moved whenever they attacked me. I never had more than five planets. I didn't intend this to happen, but both enemies surrendered at the same time while I had no planets and ships in the air... By the cleared board I could see that they each were short on ships... Maybe they each thought the other was much stronger, or maybe their wives pulled them away. They had clearly forgotten about me. My 40 remaining ships hit the planet and I won. | | Time to get the little woman involved otter :: Mar 24, 2007 @ 9:27pm |

A wife appreciates a man who will flex his muscles at her from time to time. I have 8 years experience being a wife, so I know what I'm talking about. =) Most importantly, buy her a copy of Galcon and get her hooked. Then you can beat eachother up too--a great way to solve arguments in the household! (It works for Phil and I.) Wives don't need attention--they need Galcon!!! | | Re: lets pretend im not here strategy :: Mar 27, 2007 @ 5:55pm |

Dom always say that I'm a lazy gamer , and he thinks this strategy is not a good gamer should use , but Why not ?
Attacking is a wisdom ,Retreating is also .
I use retreating for 2 reasons .
1) Strongest in the game so all player are pointing at me , retreating is just breaking alliances .
2) When I'm week , waiting a good time point to get back to the game ( around 300 units )
pretend I'm not here strategy is not only strategy for PLAY TO WIN . You cannot use only one strategy in game , it's a combination of strategy . Like 60% , not always work .
Don't use when it's not balanced(in 1v1v1 you are the No.2 big)retreating that will give others more chance to win .
the most and usful strategy is attack the strongest ,if you don't know who is the strongest , wait until he shows . | | Re: lets pretend im not here strategy :: Jul 15, 2007 @ 5:43am |

Wait until they are attacked or send out everything and then send all your saved troops to their home world and you WILL take it. I once went from 100 ships on a 15 planet to half the board in 2 mins with this tactic. Unfortunately i had few reserves so i should have stopped when i had a couple of planets as i got a huge armada coming at me in moments. I was doomed. :(
But the strategy still works. |
