I am mostly finished with a new mod I've been playing around with. It's nothing too sophisticated from a coding standpoint as I am not that experienced with it.
Description
I call it "Master of Galrion IV" as a throwback/homage to the popular game "Master of Orion II". (III was not so great) This is a bit slower paced game with a much larger map.
Tips
You will have to change your strategy as the "trading spaces" tactic doesn't really work in this game especially since planets lose production every time you trade places.
Also, "turtling" won't help you much as planets begin to lose production effectiveness as the number of ships stationed on planet increases (factories and parking lots are filling up! :P). As the game progresses, you are going to find that there are pretty well defined lines of defence.
Read the following changelog for the basic changes you will see compared to traditional Galcon. Give it time to get used to. Not everyone will like this mod as it is definitely a slower paced game. Give it a chance either way...

1) Minimum production a planet can have is 5.
2) # of neutral ship defenders is based slightly off of production value of planet.
- No more 0 defenders on a planet with 96 production.
3) Planets lose 10% production when attacked.
- Minimum a planet can be reduced to is 5.
4) Fleet movement speed slowed to 45%
5) Production speed slowed to 50%
- Net difference: production slightly higher (compared to movement speed)
6) Planets production slows down once the # of ships exceeds the production value for said planet. (Need indicator)
7) Level will occasionally spawn planets with greater than 100 production (rare).
8) I have tweaked the bot a little so it values planets in closer proximity more. Much smarter as the default bot looks primarily for cheap planets (even if it takes 40 seconds for his ships to reach them).
9) Last planet finale.

Few things I could use help with (if you so wish):

Joined: Apr 28, 2009 Posts: 710 Location: ^ rawrr | Hey, go to the Galcon app file, which would be wherever you put it. Then right click it and choose "show contents," after which you navigate the folders in this order:
Galcon app --> Contents --> Resources --> mods
At this point, unzip/extract the .zip file and drag the resulting folder into the "mods" folder. All done.
So I beat the bot in the mod, but the thing is, I had to use a LOTTTTTTTT of ships to destroy the mod's last planet, which seemed a little strange. I mean, I had to select all my planets and then empty them repeatedly into the bot's last planet.
