Moreover, % Wins seems to have nothing to do with the listed Wins / Rounds.
And how is the list sorted? The order in the list doesn't seem to track any of the columns.
I'm a very confused martian.

I've always imagined win percentage to be something simple, like "every time you win a game, take 50% times the number of players in the game, and average that into your win percentage; every time you lose a game, average in 0%", but I haven't verified that. I don't know the formula for sort order either; "rank by who has the highest 'points + 40 times win percentage" doesn't quite work, but comes close.
It'd be nice if Phil gave us the exact formula instead of his vague murmerings about "if everyone won the same number of games, they'd all have win percentage 50%" and "the rankings take into account both points and win percentage". | | Re: how can % wins on net ranks exceet 100%? :: Mar 18, 2007 @ 6:02pm |

So an Admiral with 100% should win 2/8 8 player games against other admirals (instead of the 1/8 if all 8 were equal). Having 150% means you win 3/8 8 player games against people of similar skill. I believe it works more or less like that.
50% is a ,normalized for number of players, average victory rate. Of course in two player games you cannot do better than win every game and get 100%, but in larger games you can more than double your expected outcomes. | | Re: how can % wins on net ranks exceet 100%? :: Mar 18, 2007 @ 6:31pm |

(It's harder to cheat the game when you don't know the rules.) | | Re: how can % wins on net ranks exceet 100%? :: May 3, 2007 @ 7:55am |

Luminousnerd: You get more points for beating higher-ranking people, and you also get more points if you beat more people in a game. For example, it will take a long time to gain points in 1-on-1's, but not too long if there are lots of people in the game. Look at your individual stats. You have beat more admirals than Russellg. You can thank Mario and I for being at eachother's throats last night and giving you a few of those. =) Anyway, keep up the good work! I notice from looking at your stats that you play a ton of really good players. Expect to get beat alot for awhile, but trust me--getting repeatedly crushed by good players is an excellent way to learn the game if you are observant. Watch what they do and try to imitate what works for them. Everyone has slightly different strategies, and you'll eventually figure out what works best for you. Have fun! |
