Hello everyone. I just purchased this game yesterday and i was so pumped to see that it had an active forum and strategy threads. I have looked around the site alot and i think its great. Im a huge stats guy and i love looking at my record and stuff every once in a while. I have pretty much read all of the strategy stuff and i have tried to learn as much as i can about it. I have played a ton of 1v1's and i loved them. I dont feel like im being challenged enough with them. People of low ranks always join and i destroy them. Its great to see them try and stick with it though. People such as Blackout, kai96, IvoryPlum, and time child. I am about 70-2 between all of them but it was great to develope a strategy as i practiced against them. So thanks guys! There have been others tho such as PVo who i have aton of trouble beating. i lost to him 7 times in a row in a 1v1v1v1 but i managed to pull off the victory in our only 1v1. I feel like the 1v1's are more strategy and less luck but i cant seem to find good competition to play against in 1v1's. I just got this game yesterday but i already have 180 wins and 379 games played with a 55% win rate. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips for me to improve my game. I also was wondering if there was any unspoken etiquette that i do not know so that i never offend anyone. I am going to be an active participate in this forum and this game as much as i can in my free time. So i was just saying Hi to everyone and i will hopefully see you around!!!

and if you have any tips for me that would be great.

Welcome! I know this is a bit late but there are a few things in this post that I would like to address.

Etiquitte: please read my "common courtesy" thread.

I do not agree that 1v1 is more skill and less luck. On a 1v1 map, the planetary arrangement has a huge impact on the game. If you have a terrible starting position in a 1v1 you will lose most of the time, while it is still quite easy to win in multiplayer, assuming in both cases that the people you are playing know what they are doing.

The strategy threads cover pretty much all you need to know. The rest comes with practice or high security confidential information.

That's true for a single game, but I think the point was about long runs of 1v1 games.  In that case the 'luck' should average out and any remaining difference in the percentage of the two players will be down to skill?

...thinks...

Actually I'm going to argue against myself here, because I would say that its probably true that you can win a multi-way game from a poor start, when you could NEVER win a 1v1 from a the same poor start.

Depends on who you're playing. If you were playing against me (2 months ago when I was good xD) or m2 or nohbdy, no, you probably couldn't. Most people couldn't win when they had a better starting position. IF you are much better than the other person though, or even if you can figure out how to bait them correctly, you can still win most matches where you have a worse starting position. I had over 80% wins when I would play 1v1. Based on the fact that eventually you will have an equal number of better/worse/equal starting positions, that means even if I never lost a map where I started with equal or better footing, I was still winning more than 1 out of every 3 matches where I started in a worse position. So, it can be done.

Hmmm, yeah, actually the simplest way to win a bad position is launch 100% immediately and hope their greed to take your home planet means they spend some force attacking it - then you can just swap positions and start laughing.

I suppose I was trying to make the point that having a set of REALLY low cost planets near you is absolutely no indicator of whether you're going to win a 4-way, whereas if you are an ok player, its a 'certain' win in 1v1 (some opponents excepted).  In fact I clearly remember my joy the last time I got a patch of cheap planets and I was sitting on 4 biggies for a cost of about 8 ships with a huge grin on my face, and about 2 seconds later EVERYONE attacked me! Argh!

:)
