If you've read through ipcress's intense, detailed strategies for opening moves in a 2v2 game or read tinny's brilliantly in depth tactics thread and don't understand them, if you can't get it into your freakin head that 100% is a death sentence in 2v2, if you are too focused on the shiny and dazzling galcon ships floating through the screen to make no more than 1 move per 5 seconds, or if you're just sick of losing, then this is for you.

So many players like manutd, strangelove, im.a.girl, tinny, myself, diebackstabbers, periwink, eragmus, and so many more are good enough that they can kick your ass even when teamed with a pink flag, so what in the world are you suppose to do?  Team switch.

Before I dive into this, it's important to know a when to team switch.  Switching the first second of the break between matches will result in the person you switched with switching back or the other player switching.  Instead of wasting your time clicking over and over and praying you'll get on the team you want, just wait till 1 second is left on the start timer, then switch.  If you become pro at this, you can even switch teams without any of the other players seeing it until the game actually starts.

Alright, now to the important stuff.
There are two main components in team switching.

First, there is the 'if you can't beat them, join them' tactic.  Let's say you're IFREEZER in this situation.

You know you can't win with VALDOR31 against that IonizedFire god player, and you sure as hell aren't winning with newcastleutd, so what are you gonna do?  Switch to IonizedFire's team and watch as you rack up the wins.  Now the other players might get a little upset with losing so much, so they may try to take your place, but just remember to switch at the final second and get on IonizedFire's team.

Now, for example, if you really really suck, and you're partnered with the IonizedFire guy, he might try to switch teams away from you, so just stay alert, and try to switch back on his team and pray he switches before the final second so you have time to react.

OK, so that's the first major strategy.  The second strategy to winning those tough 2v2 games is the horrible, idiotic, audacious, backstab team switch.  If you have no soul, are guiltless, and want to rank up like jackass, then this is the strategy for you. : D

So, let's say you're negroj in this position.

You keep trying and trying every match to switch with jay3000, but he just keeps ousting you at the end.  What do you do? Go the backstab route and switch with IonizedFire.  This is perfect because IonizedFire will be stuck with laurob and you, negroj, will get a free win against a 3 stripe so you'll be right on your way to becoming a Grand Admiral in 2v2. : |

Ok, so this is a bad example, but say there are 3 one stripes in a room with a sucky red flag player, and you're one of the one stripes and you're on the red flag guy's team and you're looking to rank up, just switch with a random 1 stripe and get that easy win.

Anyways, I hope this will help anyone *cough* skeems *cough* rolpsy *cough* steampunk *cough* who needs to get those free wins on higher ranked players to rank up.  Ta le da for now. Ion ouT.

Edit: if some of the people mentioned in here read this and are offended, i'm just kidding around and sorry and love you

i play with the old version too, i find its actually easier to quickly switch teams with it. but i dont try to "cheat" my way to the top. i play for fun, as should everyone! its a game, games are supposed to be fun. I realize it is fun to win but its funner to experiment and change your style up.

I always try to team up with someone who can hold their own in an even game, and a player that can win a game when they have the upper hand.

I dont care what flag they are and what other flags there are in the room.

Some of my strategys involve fast 1:1 exchanges and often against players who dont know what they are doing i often get elliminated early on, but this also means that my team mate should have the upper hand sinc their ships will be in one place and we should have the higher production and there should only be a maximum of 100 enemy ships. All I want is someone who can win those games. Which in most cases will be anyone who is a 1 stripe of higher.
When partnered with noobs its a whole different game play, its not winning your 1v1 its not even about taking control of the higher production its about waiting untill your team mate attacks and preserving your ships so you always have enough ships to win.

In games where there is a room of 3 one stripes and a 3 stripe where all the one stripes are quite evenly matched If I was the 3 stripe then all i would do is make sure that everyone gets to be teamed with you for a few games.

There isnt much of an art, because I get lag, I do my changes early because later they dont work, so on about 2 seconds.

lol i hope all you guys know i was completely messing around and joking. DO NOT take this seriously and DON'T team switch cause it's just stupid. if you're losing or stuck with a bad person, just leave the game! simple as that!

Yes I will have to concur with Zmar.  There is a third, hitherto unmentioned tactic in the Art of Team Switching.  It is knowing when the backstab is going to come, and leaving the room before hand.
