Joined: Jul 27, 2008 Posts: 1522 Location: New Jersey, U.S. | OMG so i saw this post just skimmingly and then i saw that screenshot of the new galcon glancingly and i first thought i was day-dreaming, then i thought i was misunderstanding what i was seeing. when i realized what it was and read it properly, i nearly cried. :')

now that i feel a little more rational and less blubbery, make sure an advertising component is part of the strategy! make sure the relevant itouch/iphone gaming sites are aware because there's no point in reducing the price if no one knows about it! or maybe people find out somehow? i haven't the foggiest but be sure to keep that in mind...

ONE MORE THING. i don't know how this runs on the iphone 3g updated to 3.0 or the iphone 3gs on 3.0 or the ipod 1g on 3.0 -- if Galcon's performance isn't too good on one of those configurations, people will complains and post bad reviews... which is bad. So try to figure out and make sure Galcon 1.5 works well with those configs. Of course, make sure Galcon 2 always works with these various configs. It might even be a good idea to make a little update, Galcon 1.6, solely to provide "official 3.0 compatibility"

i just had two more ideas.
FIRST, it seems the popular apps on the App Store have a very busy description with lots of text describing the game, reviews, new features, etc. So, perhaps add lots of this different information with symbols to separate the sections of info you add, to the text description in the App Store.
SECOND, for the the future after this major update is released, try to keep Galcon Online (new name??) looking alive on the App Store by releasing small updates more frequently (once a month maybe?), rather than bundling lots of updates into a big update. That way, whoever is curious about the game sees active development and is encouraged. Players hate it when development/support for a game dies, so don't let them feel that way. I have high latency with mine on galcon. (>500ms, sometimes worse!)
So I play with an iPod touch 2G.
Can't wait for the 3.1 firmware... And can't wait for new galcon.

- Number of iPhone players & servers.
- Number of flash players & servers.
- Number of IA players & servers.
- Number of total people playing & total number of servers.
- Number of people online the website.
- Number of people signed in on the forums.
Note that there already is a statistic for number of people online classic galcon.
But I think the main one is number of people online the website, and then number of guests. A massive block of statistics would be nice, but not necessary.
Didn't know where else to post this. Thanks!

I must say, though, that I LOVE the idea of a statistics box, which would list several key statistics like the ones you mentioned. That would be pretty useful... |
