If you would like to request any other little things that your struggling with, leave a reply. I will try to answer you question as soon as I can.
Now flash galcon is different from iGalcon and Classic Galcon, though it could be seen as a perfect mix of these both. It may seem a whole lot like Classic Galcon, but it has quite a few differences. The controls are different, it tends to lag more, its Flash, and sometimes its hard to tell just how many ships are being sent at you.
For those of you Classic players looking to go pro in Flash, heres a heads up.
1) Right clicking does not select a planet to send ships to. You must left click.
2) Shift does not select all planets, you have to double click any one planet you own to select all.
3) You cannot individually select planets, you can only select one, select all, or drag a box.
4) The numbers to change the percects are not on the number pad, but the numbers above the keyboard.
As for all of you iGalcon players, the controls will be completely new to you. You can find them via the game itself for a detailed description of it all.
Heres for the actual guide to playing, and please, all n00bs need to read this!!
Starting the game:
1) Assess your situation/setup. Try to find planets ripe for the picking. Try not take any that are medium-high cost that are EXTREMELY close to an enemy, this will instigate them into "oh hey he's down about 30 ships and right next to me, he's an easy kill," and yes, you will be an easy kill. The only time it's really necessary to kill someone right off the bat is if you know there will be no consequences for killing them (I.E. your enemies won't notice because you did it quickly and easily, the other two are fighting, etc.). Otherwise, avoid early game fights, they usually end up in the guy next to you finish you both off easily.
Midway point:
2) About midway through the game, if in the beginning it didn't end itself (two 1v1's and there was a clear winner) then simply expand as far as your able to. It's best to take any planet you think will eventually give you more ships than you paid for it. If theres a planet that has 45 ships on it with 15 production, it's up to you wether you think it will pay itself off. If your in a game with campers, sooner or later youll be getting more ships than you paid. If your playing action-packed potheads, try only getting planets that will pay themselves off within about a minute, tops. Around the time that you've done all you can, start making truces and planning things out. Don't go willy nilly and just fight whoever you think you can beat. If someone clearly owns a massive amount of the map, and will win if no action is taken, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT fight your fellow weaklings. You will not win. And remember, there is no second place. You will not be rewarded for throwing the game to another player, only shunned by your peer.
Late Game:
3) This is when action NEEDS to be taken. No one likes a 20 minute waiting game, only having so many of the players to have wasted their time and not have won. Find who you think would be a good enemy, and prepare a "switch." This is where two players empty all their bases and switch sides completely. After this, you should not continue to fight the other player. And at that point, the game should get rolling. People will start to fight, and then you can join in whenever you please. If the switch doesn't get people to play, sorry, I ain't got nothin'. All I can say is team up with people and try whatever works for you.
For larger games (7+ players)
These games are best to be avoided. If there is another game open that has space in it and won't be too big when you join, join it.
The larger games require a whole lot less skill, as a lot of it is pure luck, and being able to attack last. If you don't have a perfect setup, your toast.
Other little tips:
When fighting someone, if you're obviously producting more than they are, avoid using anything above 50% of your ships. If you wind up switching sides with them, they'll be producing faster than you, and now they'll have the advantage. If your the smaller of the two fighting, and I mean a whole lot smaller, go all out. You're going to WANT more production than them.
n00bs must know:
1) If someone want's to switch, PLEASE, don't continue to fight them! I've experienced this FAR too much and have wound up dying at the mercilous n00bz hand :'[
2) "If someone clearly owns a massive amount of the map, and will win if no action is taken, DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT fight your fellow weaklings. You will not win. And remember, there is no second place. You will not be rewarded for throwing the game to another player, only shunned by your peer." MAKE SURE THIS SOAKS IN. Often times I've found myself DRAMATICALLY smaller than someone, he was big enough to just eat us all. As your guessing, the n00b decided to attack us other smaller players. The fatty won >.<
Anyways my wrists hurts from using my computer excessively now. I'll add more as I see fit, soon enough. Thanks for reading!!

These are my strategies alone, and I am not saying you MUST do this in order to win, I am simply expressing my tactics/strategies and providing a guide of tips and tricks for those new to Flash Galcon.

Thanks for reading!
I hope I can still beat all you n00bs out there now that you know how to play!!
I probobally won't :(

I disagree with some of the stuff you posted, but most of it regardless seems like it's exactly the same as classic. Apart from the mechanics of selecting planets/ships I don't see what's changed. | | Re: Beginner's Guide to Flash Galcon :: Jul 1, 2009 @ 5:11pm |

I'll copy and paste your tip if I find it suitable and up-to-par.
It will look as follows

I didn't mean include it in your post, it wasn't a strategy point, I was just curious as to why you drew such a distinction between the two versions...which you've now posted :)
Great work again on the post anyway. Anything that helps the noobs clue up ASAP is good by my book. Good of you to spend the time writing it.
If you want another tip you may have already included, it's to take a careful look at your neighbours when going attacking at the start. Just because your immediate neighbour weakens themselves and you can take them, doesn't mean there isn't someone immediately waiting to take you as soon as you do. Biggest Noob-death cause I see is bad judgement calls for starting attacks. Sometimes patience and peace pays off.
EDIT: Ah, it appears you covered it under number 1. Never mind :)post updated on Jul 2, 2009 @ 11:40am | | Re: Beginner's Guide to Flash Galcon :: Jul 2, 2009 @ 8:22pm |

Actually I think it's more like iPhone Galcon than it is like Classic Galcon.
Great tips. A lot of them I already use, so I'm not thrilled for you revealing them. :Dpost updated on Jul 8, 2009 @ 7:13pm | | Re: Beginner's Guide to Flash Galcon :: Jul 8, 2009 @ 11:43pm |
