maybe desktop is better, i didnt test it, and i am not willing to test it atm..
some user cant install the desktop version (at work for exemple) and like the simple flash version
anyway, we would like some admin commands to be able to play without those multiple accounts guys for exemple | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Oct 28, 2009 @ 11:13am |

Flash is installed on nearly every modern computer so you don't need to download something else (InstantAction plug-in).
- It's much simpler. Sure, often times having lots of new features is good but frequently I just want to jump right in and play a competitive game of Galcon.
I admit, there aren't many reasons. But I like it and I'm sure others do so I don't think we should just say screw you like Apple did to PowerPCs. :) | | Origional title :] :: Oct 28, 2009 @ 8:19pm |

It won't make a huge difference, but it could help. | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Oct 28, 2009 @ 8:35pm |

Anyway, I posted somewhere in this thread that it was wrong for Nanno to suggest that Flash Galcon was being discontinued... so I totally agree that Flash should be maintained and improved to make it function better:
- no disconnect upon changing tab
- less lag, smoother ship movement
- buggy ship movement sometimes
- etc. | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Oct 28, 2009 @ 9:50pm |

there are quite some players on the flash version,
and maybe they dont buy it because of this! | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Oct 30, 2009 @ 8:13pm |

I would love to be able to tell you exactly when he'll work on it, but at the moment I just can't. He's got a few things on this plate that simply cannot wait while Flash has no current deadlines. I'll definitely keep you guys posted when Phil gets some time to work on Flash, and I'll keep a little bug in his ear about it as well. =) | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Oct 30, 2009 @ 8:26pm |

Honestly, I've played both, but I guess since I started on flash, I lean towards that one more.
The rounds are faster, even the ships move faster, the ships fleet size changes proportionally to the overall ammount of ships currently in the game (thus you dont have a huge fleet that takes up the whole screen and takes 20 seconds just to fully enter a planet, there is a maximum fleet size which keeps them agile).
I, for one, like the ability to make a sudden attack with 2000 ships that instantly explodes the enemy and does NOT slowly hit the planet giving time for the enemy to evacuate the planet and fly around (like it happens in desktop).
I also like to NOT have 50,000 ships... the uber long games are the reason I quit desktop after 2 days. (side note, I made it to 3-stripe on the first day, so I did get to play a bit)
I used to think Flash matches were long, but man, desktop ones are unbearable when it gets down to 3 players.
I prefer flash's graphics as well, and the ease to play it... just open a new tab on a browser and thats it, easy to multitask.
Most other features are better on desktop indeed, obviously. But I'm already used to flash, not only the controls, but also the speed, timing and looks.post updated on Oct 30, 2009 @ 8:31pm | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Feb 13, 2010 @ 2:59pm |

But in fusion, only registered players can play, and most people can only use one name, unless they want to register 1,000 names and manually switch it every few rounds. | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Feb 13, 2010 @ 3:12pm |

Unfortunately this is not a simple fix for Flash because we can't limit it to one user per IP. College campuses, for example, have lots of students but often only one IP address for the entire college. Towns in remoter areas can have the same problem. Not sure what we can do about this right now. I'm sorry. | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Feb 14, 2010 @ 11:49am |

I'd be happy to offer my services porting it. Heck, even free of charge... | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Mar 5, 2010 @ 4:36pm |

plus HTML5 is the future, as it's being heavily promoted by google and apple.. and considering google IS the internet, yeah. | | Re: Galcon Flash on hold for a while :: Mar 5, 2010 @ 5:21pm |

p.s. Silverlight doesn't even need a browser to work. The winter Olympics were streamed in Silverlight. Silverlight works correctly on all current browsers right now, HTML5 doesn't. Doing heavy programming still requires some other language when using HTML5, but not with Silverlight.
I do see HTML5 being a strong contender going forward, but we are still several years away from being able to RELY on it exclusively.
