Quick outline of rules:
This isn't a place to post naughty pictures or dirty discussion topics. Keep it clean, folks!
Religion and politics are fun, but tread cautiously when dealing with such potentially volatile subjects. Friendly debate is welcome. Fighting and flaming is not.
Good manners are important. Be respectful and respectable.

Wow that was fast. Orly asked for this last night and here it is.
Actually, this was requested about two months ago, but Phil and I decided against it at the time (in part because we were on a road trip and it was impossible to even think of adding one more thing to the forums), but I know that a lot of off-topic stuff gets brought up anyway, so we might as well accommodate it. Besides, people are clamoring for a tighter-knit community, and this is just the first (tiny) step in that direction.
Please ban Religon and Political threads completely. Almost all other sites ban this, I.e. bungie.net because they end up as flame wars.
Here are my thoughts on this, pasted from another thread where I already responded:
"...where's the fun in banning some of the most interesting topics known to mankind? I don't care if people talk about the deeper things in life as long as it's kept civil. Now granted, it's quite likely to become UN-civil very quickly, but perhaps we can learn to exercise a few manners? I can always delete posts or close/delete topics, and we might even scrap the whole off-topic section altogether if people can't learn to live together in harmonious disagreement. I like harmonious disagreement. I like it very much. Makes life much more interesting than if we all thought the same thing about everything--especially politics and religion.
I'd like our forum to be a place where civilized discussion, appropriate for polite society and mixed company, takes place. Intelligence and maturity (which I concede are rare things on the internet) are to be strongly encouraged here in regards to sensitive subjects." |
