I say let them in; let all of them in. The problem with illegal immigrants is, they think they can make a better life for themselves over here. So I say impose HUGE MASSIVE fines for businesses that employ illegals.
Make sure everyone has a green card. How in the world could this go wrong? Companies would avoid illegals like the plauge, and illegals would have to go back.
I know that some people would still work for under-the-table cash but it would be far less people then our current mass of illegals.
So. what think forum? | | Re: Political Spectrum :: Jul 11, 2010 @ 3:54pm |

During a recession, illegals must face the brutality of a completely open market, where the demand for labor and the number of people available together determines the wage. They will be paid much less, and in turn not come into the US as much. Also, businesses will not have to drastically cut jobs as they can simply cut the wages of the illegals. This allows them to continue operating at ideal levels, and pull us out of recession earlier than otherwise.
During an expansionary period, the businesses get to reap the benefits of having extra work hands available who can be hired and fired quickly and effortlessly. Notice no one cares about illegals during these times; its actually better for the country to have them.
The only problem I see with this is that the businesses could fire the citizens first, and keep the illegals. However, lowering the salaries of the illegals would allow for more labor anyway, so this would only be an issue if you had workers just standing around. Maybe only allow this for certain jobs?
@fresh.baked
I think that works beautifully in theory, but i don't think that would stop it to the extent desired. I think my idea would help business more than just scare them into submission.post updated on Jul 11, 2010 @ 3:57pm | | Re: Political Spectrum :: Jul 11, 2010 @ 10:34pm |

So I ask one simple question, why does the united states spend HALF of the WORLDS budget on military. Blah blah we're in a war policing other countries that don't want to be policed, but (and I will find the link later) even before the war started we spent 42% of our decrestionary funds on military. More than health care education and clean energy combined.

Because we've made ourselves the world's police state. We want to be the most powerful country in the world and the easiest way to achieve that is through military force. Knowing how to calculate a hypotenuse doesn't help stop a dictator from taking your country over. (Not directly, anyway)
Who cares if they don't want to be policed? If they don't like it, they can either kick us out (good luck there) or convince us that we don't need to be there by transforming themselves into something that we don't consider a threat.
"Does that sound like a LIBERTARIAN government?"
Hmm, at least from what I read on the wikipedia page, it doesn't seem to violate any libertarian principles. (I could be wrong, I admit I didn't really know exactly what it meant before looking it up, I merely identify it will small government)
edit: Sigh. Typo removed. I blame my keyboard, it lags and misses letters. Worst keyboard ever.

What we need to do is say that we're pulling our troops out unless help is formally requested. That way they can shoot their selves in the foot if they want, but we are still there if they need us, like people are supposed to be for each other.
The best stat i heard about this: if we add up the next 15 countries below the US (that is 2-16), we still have more money spent.
I'd much rather wind farm the entirety of west texas. |
