Not count retro at all...

Averages (with Retro counted on both):

Liron...: 7.571428571428571
Coolhwip: 6.857142857142857

Averages (without retro on both):

Liron...: 7.833333333333333
Coolhwip: 7.666666666666667

With cabin boy being 1 and GA being 10 that's what I got. It's not fair to count it for some but not others in the average. Either count it for everyone, or count it for no one.

Seems simple enough?

"It's not fair to count it for some but not others in the average. Either count it for everyone, or count it for no one."

It's completely fair. If retro were playable on the ipad, it'd be counted for everyone. However, since it is not, that should be taken into consideration if at all possible. This rules out counting it for everyone. (This isn't a terrible solution however. It's what I did initially.)

However, this should not mean that if player A plays retro and finds out that he sucks at it, he should get off scott-free. If a player has the ability to play retro, they should be scored on it. If they do not, they should not. The only way to guarantee hat a player can play retro is by checking to see if they've ever been ranked in it. If they have, they have the ability to play it and it should thus be considered. If they have not, ignore the mode entirely.

It's perfectly fair.

Umm, I disagree...

Retro is the single hardest game mode to rank up in. No one ever plays it and if you can get someone in your server I've never seen them play for longer than a game or two. The ONLY way to rank up past a point in retro would be to literally get a group of people and play nothing but it in that small group for a good full day. That's utterly pointless and proves nothing. Thus generally speaking you're simply not going to see very high retro ranks.

Now in your ranking system it's pretty much punishing someone for playing retro past a green flag (or is it a bit higher)? So you're saying you shouldn't play the game mode at all for fun (as you have no hope to rank up very high without going way out of your way) lest you completely drill your hall of fame averages for ranking through the floor?

The answer is to simply not count retro. It's not comparable to ranking up in other game modes.

Btw, a green flag means coolhwip has played retro, thus has the ability to play retro. Why isn't his counted?

I expressly avoided that idea. I don't pay any attention to how hard it is to rank up in any mode whatsoever. My concern is not with the difficulty in ranking up in any mode. the You could make the exact same argument about nearly any mode except ffa and teams. It's a slippery slope I don't care to fall down.

"That's utterly pointless and proves nothing."

Yes it would. It would prove who is good at retro.

"Btw, a green flag means coolhwip has played retro, thus has the ability to play retro. Why isn't his counted?"

I forget why it was originally done that way. I considered changing it to pink only but when I asked people if they thought I should change it back, they said no. It's simply a niceness.

I probably should change it. I'll do it sometime soon.

edit 1: Answered chi's second post.

edit 2: I decided I should change it so that green flags were counted in retro.

I still find that it more or less encourages anyone looking at this to simply not play retro at all. It's the only mode that is discounted if you have a pink flag, but the second you get to green/white or whatever your average tanks till you bring it up. Any other mode your average would be tanked simply for not playing it.

Either way it's the only game mode that you're literally punished average-wise to play at all. Thus we have the situation at hand. Coolhwip who has the ability to try playing it and ranking up simply doesn't. Thus he's ranked higher than Liron who did play it and made it to the second highest rank achieved in that mode, and is punished in the rankings for doing so.

Not logical at all.

It still leaves the option for PC players to simply not play retro. But it's better than nothing I guess.

Hardcore rankwhores will find a way to game any system. If someone is really making decisions based on this, they're pretty pathetic, in my opinion.

lol, it pretty much fixes the problem by bumping green. It more or less means if you've ever played Retro, you have to rank it up all the way.

I still don't see the reason not to just discount the game mode altogether. But I honestly don't care much about ranks at all in the end. I just thought it was unfair Liron (who does care) wasn't on top when he had the highest general ranks of the group.

To each his own, and time for bed!

I don't have the ability to play guys. Once I join a game with 1 other person in it, then they started it and quit, giving me 1 win. I am on iPad and cannot play retro. Please i beg of you, don't count my green flag!

How come Liron is ranked lower than Coolhwip even though he has better flags?

So marky, because I decided to try retro a long time ago, it should count for me? I'm an iPad player, and rarely ever play on a computer. I suggest that you don't count retro at all.

So let's say there are two workers in an office. The first worker gets a promotion that the second worker wanted. The second worker has obviously been working much harder for the promotion than the first one.

Is this fair, marky? Think of coolhwip as the first worker and liron... as the second one

Whoops! didn't notice that. I though my example was a good one, too. =(
