Location: Dublin | Now that the ipad version has been out for awhile, what are folks thoughts on ipad versus desktop competitiveness?
Are there any "desktop veterans" who are now playing on ipad? What are your thoughts?
Anyone using an ipad who's up to Admiral? Captain? Commander? |

Posts: 36 | Well I have never played on Ipad but I have played on iphone alot and when I first started playing on desktop the mouse felt clunky and hard to use I got used to it but I still think that the Ipad is a little better the touchscreen helps alot. |

Location: Colorado The Queen Bee | I've used both, of course, and I far prefer the desktop controls for some reason. I think Phil prefers the iPad. I'm a lot quicker with a mouse than with a touchscreen, and I miss the chat when I'm on an iPad. |

Location: Texas | I have always thought that with a fair amount of practice, an iPad would preform better because of faster clicks, better redirect, and the ability to have 2 cursors (fingers). |

Location: Dublin | Wish you were right... but for every advantage there are disadvantages...
- half the screen is covered when you bring up the keyboard... messaging is hard to do and dangerous in a fast moving game
- takes longer to select a group with fingers than it does to drag a window across them
- using flick to select fleet percentage is less than ideal
And I won't even get into the wifi problems.
Still... I'm definitely interested to see what some galcon desktop pros think once they've had a chance to try it for awhile on the ipad. I'd really love to see folks putting 2 or more fingers into simulaneous action. I rarely use more than one finger at a time because trying more at once leads to more mistakes and the time-saving isn't worth it... it doesn't take much longer to just use one finger quickly. |

In all seriousness, I'm sure you'll do well... but I'll be kind of surprised if you equally as well as you do on pc... and very surprised if you do any better. |

Posts: 1 | I only use the iPad, and I made it to the rank with the blue and one stripe, but then I lost some more and dropped back down to red. But yes, it is possible. Only been playing a few days too. Played on iPhone though. |

Location: Dublin | I don't doubt it's possible, but after seeing some of concr3t3wav3's playing yesterday - I think he's going to somewhat miss window selects.
Ironically, I lost a game yesterday by bringing up the virtual keyboard to type "hey" back to concr3t3wav3 and then the game started and it took me just long enough for the keyboard to go away that I missed the start.
I definitely don't chat with folks as much as I'd like to... it's just too dangerous to miss the action. |

Posts: 36 | I will miss the drag box it's good for quickly taking over the whole galxey or just if you don't wanna send ships from all of your planets. I think if I can move for single planets faster I won't miss it too much I played iphone for years and was able to get pretty darn fast. When thinking about chat this might be good because I tend to talk a bit to much also one should only be chatting when you are sure you have the time for it so this dosn't bother me very much. post updated on May 27, 2010 @ 7:57am |
