I'm thinking about adding some in-app-purchases to Dynamite Jack.  What would you want to buy?

Personally I'm keen on cosmetic only when it comes to buying things in a game you already own. 

That being said I think things like different color lighting in map editors would be one idea.

If you'd like the offer of my friend doing some music still stands, could work as a DLC option and it would be free.

All in all I think just more general options in the editor sounds nice to me. That leads to more complex maps and more fun making them.

Just bought the game on the iPhone, it really is a top-notch game, one of the truly best! Actually it is better than galcon in its design and concept. The graphics are just incredible (amazing glow effects!) and everything is just so fluid.

I haven't tried everything yet, and still haven't built a map, but I'd be happy to buy an extended editor version, sith new objects. Maybe signs that you can put in some place, and where Jack comes next to them, a text written by the map editor appears.

PS: those trolls are just TERRIFYING! The first time I encountered was in a community map; I didn't know they existed and was wondering what kept making these noises. I initially thought it was a special kind of tile that made sound when Jack stepped on it. But then those devio creatures started to pursue me and I actually yelped out of fear haha!

Btw, are the iPhone, Ipad, PC community maps related? Or are they different for each platform?

The community maps are the same for all platforms. Build once. Play everywhere! :)

I would also buy an editor patch, but for me the  interesting thing would be a set a new floor textures: first of all stairs in different materials (stone, metal, wood) and two directions (North-South, West-East). In Dr. Frankenstein's Mansion, I used the wood texture to recreate wooden stairs, but since plain wooden floor is similar, the effect is not perfect. And I was forced to make N-S stairs.
Maybe also dirty/slimy/bloodstained stone for areas with zombies, spider web, electronic-looking floors, ice, snow...
You can get some ideas of textures from Doom, and an easy way to do so is to use any Doom level editor and open the texture panel. Doom Builder is the best I've used: http://www.doombuilder.com/ 
Water, blood and slime floors would be nice, but to recreate a liquid texture you must add an animation, and I'm afraid DJ's game engine won't support it (and, even if it was possible, it would likely drastically slow down gameplay). But it's an idea, just in case.

White lights (soft and bright) would also be cool, in order to light an area without changing the floor's color.

That's a very nice idea! However I think the text shouldn't appear automatically when Jack comes near it, because then it could happen at inappropriate times (for example if the sign is placed in an area with enemies) and impede gameplay; an easy way to avoid this would be that the player has to press a key to activate (read) the sign. But with this small restriction, I agree that it could be an interesting thing to add storyline within a map.

And another one: like we have red lasers turning clockwise and green lasers turnings counterclockwise, why not adding green spiders with a beam turning counterclockwise?
I admit I must be a little masochistic, since red spiders are already horribly nasty... No doubt that with red and green spiders, mapmakers will create spidery nightmare maps!

If you add in-app purchases to the iOS version, you should add DLCs to the Steam and standalone computer version (humble bundle) as well.

The IAPs/DLCs I'd like to see are:

- Texture packs (for use with the map editor)
- Chi-Ro's friend's soundtrack
- New objects (for use with the map editor)
- Something related to Galcon :D
- Level packs

The problem with IAPs would be that most data types (except music for example) need to be in the app itself and therefore you'd have a bigger app size. This is what happened with N.O.V.A. 2 for example, they offered a map pack and the IAP basically just set a variable from 0 to 1 or something like that...

Hi Phil!
I don't know if you're still thinking about in-app purchases for DJ, and if you thought about our various ideas of a patch for the editor.

I'm currently working on my map for DM05 contest, and here's two other ideas that could be very useful to all of us mapmakers :

- implement a "save as" button, so that one could save a map with another name. This would allow to try major modifications and still have the original draft in case the modifs are not satisfying.

- add x steps of cancelling (i.e. the ability to go back x steps by pressing 'z').

Glad you're enjoying it so much!!!

I'm not planning on doing any IAP in Dynamite Jack at this time ... 

Multi-step undo was considered when I was making it, and unfortunately because of some of the tools like "fill" and whatnot, it was going to be a bit complicated to do it "right" with how I was doing things.

"Save as" .. I think the reason that isn't in the game is I wanted to avoid having people re-sharing nearly identical maps to the community ... Maybe that was just paranoia ...!  (You can keep a window open with Windows explorer or something, and copy user.db to backup your maps.  However, be warned that if you are running Dynamite Jack under Steam this will most certainly result in some sort of mini-disaster.  So only do that if you are using the DRM free version.  If you don't have that, contact me for a link.)
