2) other players are tired of waiting
3) in galcon it is easy to spend more time waiting than playing
4) that is the main reason some friends dont buy the game
5) it is very dificult to move to other server while waiting: we dont know if ther is empty servers. We need to agree on a server before we go there. etc...
So what do we need?
Automatic start of new game/server with queue.
Let me explain and make some considerations:
we need a engine that will group players and start a new server automatically.
(My idea is similar to COMPANY OF HEROES way to start multiplayer games)
1) A player can register in the waiting room and tell what is the minimum number of players that he accepts to play.
2) when there are enough players registered, that players will be transfered to one of the servers and a game will start in 20 sec
3) when a new game is about to start all servers will get a message warning that a game will start in 20 sec (with the name of the players that are in the game) so some players that are watching in other servers could join.
Advantages:
-we will play much more and wait less.
-the groups will be more mixed and dont need to be always the same group, game after game, this is very positive because most revenges wont happen, and you wont need for admins and all the issues that arise
- if there is enough players the engine can group players based in rank and that will result in more balanced games
-etc
Dificulties:
- servers issues: i propose that you should use the ones that are created and empty. Other option is one of the players will be automatically the server... (many games do that)
- engine: i believe im talking about a very complex thing, especially the integration among the several servers
PS: all projects should be phased :-)
I propose this for Phase 1:
Give the option to start a game with a warning. When the game is started the game will be delayed for 20 sec and the warning i explained above appears in all servers.
Only this would be a huge improvement in Galcon!
That's all for now... (sorry for my english, but if i write this in portuguese few would understand) |

I agree. For the server problem, just make a server devoted to the qeued games. You can only join if you are waiting to play on another server. Or something along those lines. |

We are waiting mainly becouse there are few players playing at a time (and standoffs). (Whats more sometimes we would wait even more until the desired amount of players register.)
What I liked is shuffling players between the games. Identical to the "anonimous games" idea (random colors, hidden names).
Sadly- as far as I'm concerned the multiplayer won't change in the foreseeable future.post updated on Feb 26, 2008 @ 11:20am |

Another option I've considered is having some servers be able to run with a 5 minute rule or something. Whoever has the most production after 5 minutes wins. I'd like to play that, because I like to play a handful of quick games.
Would anyone else find that option fun? If so, I might be able to set my server up to do for a while.
