Galcon + iPhone = AWESOME !!!

Hey folks! It’s finally here – Galcon for the iPhone and iPod Touch :)

You can get it from the iTunes Store :-)

Here’s a video of me playing it:

Here’s some bzawesome screenshots:

So, hey, I think we’ve got a fun opportunity here folks .. So far there are only a few games for the iPhone that are really good. I bet with a bit of good olde-fashioned grass-roots hype we could get the word out and get Galcon to the top of the list! So here’s what to do:

  • tell all your iPhone toting friends about it!
  • blog about it! twitter about it! whatever!
  • play it and make a YouTube video of it!
  • up-vote this on your favorite news site!
  • leave a review on the iTunes site!

Anyway, there’s lots more exciting Galcon news coming over the next few months so stay tuned!

Tallyho!

Hey I just bought galcon but it crashes on my Gen 1 iPhone on startup =( Please help.

Oh I love it, was chatting with a friend a while ago what would be cool on the iPhone plattform and Galcon was in our Top3 now its here. Brills.
Runs fine, is a little harder to play then on the mac and I’m really missing sounds and network support. Then it would be a 5 Star App.

I’m hoping to do an MP version later this year. I need a break first!

@Siqi – maybe you can get a refund from the iTunes store?

I’m going to see if I can get SFX back in. (I actually had them working, but they turn off your iPod music, which I thought was a bit of a bummer.) Maybe I can work around that somehow.

  12. Shank Mc Shanks Says:

Sync with iTunes first, then try deleting the game on the phone (touch and hold your finger on the icon for a couple moments), and re-syncing with iTunes. Some people have said that has worked with other games.

Again, same comment, I made earlier why not just give the Soundtrack to those who purchased the could listen to it while play the new iPhone ver. of the game? It would be a bummer if you couldn’t it would be like not ever being able to obtaint he soundtrack for Sphira Softwares Ill fated Spin Crisis.

good job on releasing this on the iphone man. been a long-time player of galcon & i’m so pleased you released it thru the app-store. Get sound/music added ASAP – they’re needed in commercial world IMO.

Multiplayer will be the thing that makes Galcon huge on iPhone. If you can manage it, your business will take off.

  15. Richard Says:

Great game, very catchy, but the mechanism for changing the percentage of force you send is so clunky as to be unusable. The game’s still playable, but it could be better. I understand that on a PC the mousewheel does this, and I can see that would be far better.

Is it possible to have a slider (or swipe zone) on one side of the screen that your “other thumb” could control? This would fit best in landscape orientation but might still be workable in portrait; essentially the position of your “spare thumb” would control the percentage of forces sent.

My favourite iPhone game so far, by the way :)

  16. Luke Arntson Says:

Wow Phil, great job on the port. Looks like a really great game, I’ll see if I can get my boss to snag it on our local iTouch.

  17. Carsten W Says:

Hey, and thanks for a great game. It really needs a couple of updates though, before MP and so on rise to the top. Sound is number one, but then, you know that. Secondly, at the moment you can play any level at any time, and once the game is done, there seems to be no record of it. I think it would make much more sense to have to enter a player name (you should of course be able to have more than one…), and then to unlock the difficulty levels as you conquer the lower ones. The best times for each level should also be recorded. It would be great if these scores would also be tabulated online, the next time you connect, like Trism, but that would be optional.

As it is, it is a little too loosely structured, and if you forget where you were playing last, it can be frustrating.

In another comment, there might be slightly too many difficulty levels :)

Anyway, I am off to play a little :)

Sorry guys… new to this 3rd party software business… only just had my ipod touch jailbroken… how do you get Galcon installed on the pod? thanks for the help.

  19. Aspect Says:

Uh.. well it doesn’t need to be jailbroken. Just install the 10 dollar app store update and get Galcon for 10 bucks.

About Galcon, I don’t think it needs sounds, but it would be nice to have it I guess as an option. But multiplayer is a necessity. I really want to play my friends galcon and show them who’s their daddy, but It’s not possible now! You say later this year, but how much later? I guess you don’t really know yourself… Also you say a multiplayer version, will this version just be an update, or will we have to purchase the app again to get mp support?

Great game… easily the most used app on my Touch right now. Didn’t know about Galcon until I found it in the app store- can’t wait to d/l the desktop version.

I want to add my voice to the masses that want SFX and music.

  24. Marcus Says:

Hey, just purchased the game for my iPhone and love it! The only gripe I have so far is the color choices you’ve have for classic mode. I’m colorblind and cannot tell the difference between the green/brown colors for me and the enemy. This makes it difficult to know what planets are mine vs the computer. It would be really nice if you could change it to something more drastic like green/blue or green/bright red. Color combos that would be bad for color blind people are green/yellow, green/light red, blue/purple, green/brown, etc.

  25. admin Says:

Hey, it might be a few weeks, but I do have color-blind support on my TODO list .. I’ll see what I can do :)
